What is live video production?

In a traditional production, the film itself is built in post-production: editing, colour grading and sound mixing shape the material over weeks. In a live production, all of that happens in real time. A vision mixer cuts between multiple cameras, audio is mixed live, and graphics and pre-recorded clips are triggered on cue. The result reaches the audience with no detour, streamed to LinkedIn, YouTube, an event platform or the company intranet.

Mistakes cannot be edited away. That pushes the effort earlier, into redundancy, rehearsal and a precise run-of-show.

• Town halls and internal events: reaching employees across multiple sites at once, often in several languages or with subtitles.
• Product launches: a launch moment that brings customers and press into a shared real-time experience.
• Conferences and panels: hybrid formats where the online audience gets an equivalent experience to the room.

Combining formats often pays off: the stream is recorded and later cut into short social clips in 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1.

Three things separate success from embarrassment: redundancy (a second internet line, a backup encoder, a spare camera), rehearsal (a full technical run-through with every speaker) and clear direction (someone deciding live what goes to air). Clean sound design matters just as much, bad audio loses viewers faster than any picture problem.

A professional setup typically includes two to four cameras, a vision switcher, dedicated audio engineering and a stream director monitoring bitrate and platform delivery.

A compact single-camera stream with professional audio starts in the low thousands of francs; a multi-camera production with direction, graphics and redundancy runs well above that.
